BARBES RECORDS AT APAP

Sunday 01/11

GLOBALFEST at Webster Hall
CHICHA LIBRE
- 9:50pm
Chicha Libre plays a mixture of Latin rhythms, surf music and psychedelic pop inspired by Amazonian Chicha from Peru. The Brooklyn-based band mixes covers of forgotten Chicha classics with original compositions in French, Spanish and English, re-interpretation of 70’s pop classics, cumbia versions of pieces by Satie, Ravel and other pop delights. Chicha Libre has performed at the Montreal Jazz festival, Celebrate Brooklyn, The Chicago World Music Festival, The Kennedy Ctr, has toured the East and West Coast. Its music was used in TV show Weeds and their cd Sonido Amazonico will be relesed this Spring in Europe and South America by Belgian label Crammed Disc.

Friday 01/09

Barbès Records & Trouble Worldwide Present
HERE COMES TROUBLE @ 92YTribeca - 200 Hudson Street - off of Canal St.

LAS RUBIAS DEL NORTE 8.45pm
The seven piece band, fronted by two female singers, does its own take on (mostly) vintage Latin American music, with a nod to western classical influences. Songs on their latest album Panamericana have been called “sparlking gems” (New Yorker magazine) and their harmonies described as “pure as Andean air” (LA Times).

HAZMAT MODINE 10.15pm
Hazmat Modine blows Americana’s borders wide open with the energy of a Romanian brass band and the scratchy soul of a vintage blues record. Fronted by two virtuoso harmonica players and backed by tuba, horns, and guitars, Hazmat Modine makes forgotten instruments and quirky songs addictively catchy.

SLAVIC SOUL PARTY 11.45pm
Of all the NYC dance bands that draw on Eastern European music, SSP! is the coolest. And the group isn’t preoccupied with rebelling against the Old World. The Big Easy funk influence adds a welcome laid-back quality to Balkan-brass frenetics. Live, the band’s members prove they are acutely aware of the common principle that unites the traditions they borrow from: Music ought to move you.” TimeOut NY.

Also Featuring:
GOKH-BI SYSTEM, CORDERO and KARSHKALE
