Or rather. David Teague and myself need your help kickstarting our documentary about Ranil and Iquitos.
We might already have gotten an email from me a few weeks ago. Things have changed slightly.
For one thing, we did manage to go down to Iquitos for our first research trip, which proved more amazing than we even expected. We did get some footage and you can watch a teaser here.
Also, the nature of fundraising through Kickstarter means that we have to reach our goal within a certain period of time - or else lose all contributions.
We have reached close to 20% of our goal - and are immensely thankful to all the people who have helped us so far. However, we only have 8 days left to reach our actual goal.
If you intended to contribute or to mention the project to your wealthy producer friends, now is the time.
Each contributions comes with actual awards - mostly music from barbès records.
The movie will be about Ranil - a musicians, activist, radio impressario, guru resident of Belen - and about music. Mostly Amazonian cumbia, which is also known as chicha. It will feature local musicians, painters, journalists as well as the people of Belen and the politicians who are trying to represent them. Iquitos alone is an amazing setting: the capital of the Peruvian Amazon is the largest isolated city in the world, and has a history of extreme poverty, exploitation and extravagant wealth that dates back to the Rubber boom of the 1900's.
